Breaking the Habit - Often we think of habits as some outward behavior that we can see and measure.
Bad habits like overeating, nail-biting, cigarette smoking, and so much more are noticeable to all, but what about the bad habits that are internal but often extremely damaging? I am thinking of the habit of telling ourselves stories and believing the narratives that serve to keep us in a bad place. The narratives that tell us we are not worthy, we are not good enough, that we deserve the situation we are in, there is no way out, etc.
Believing in these narratives prevents us from breaking free and moving on. To stop smoking is very hard but has many benefits. The same is true of breaking the habit of believing the negative stories.
As someone who had to let go of internal narratives that were holding me back I can relate, but once we understand that they are harming us more than helping, that they prevent us from reaching our potential, from moving on and moving forward, from coming to terms with the issue we are trying to ignore, then we are able to break through their hold on us and truly move to the next level.
